United States, California, Flowers (sepals and petals) are yellowish purple with dark purple lines; no spur; leaves reduced to inconspicuous paper sheaths. Stems, 8" to 24", are brownish and stout. Species striata is close in description; it and maculata grow in same areas as biglovii; fungi on roots cooperate to produce food from decaying vegetaion. Found in forest duff on path to Carlon Falls. 4,000' alt.
