Occurs infrequently along the beach on north end of island, becoming more common, dense and larger along the northern tip of the island. Taprooted annual herb 6-24 in tall. Stems succulent, slightly ridged; ridges pink-red along basal parts of stem. Leaves succulent, spine tipped. Floral bracteoles succulent, basally connate, spine tipped. Perianth green with a non-rigid, triangular apex.
